Dr. Abhishek Kalla trained at the Medical College of Georgia, where he completed both his internal medicine residency and hematology/oncology fellowship. He participated in research involving acute leukemia and sickle cell. In addition, he received an award recognizing his compassionate care during his intern year of residency.
His passion lies in teaching various aspects of medicine and he has gone out of his way to educate a wide range of trainees from medical students to hematology/oncology fellows. Having grown up in several countries around the world, he is cognizant of cultural differences and similarities and is able to connect with a wide variety of individuals. This background helps him understand the psychosocial aspect of illness, which translates into more complete and compassionate care. He believes in aggressive treatment of curable illnesses, but is also empathetic to the idea of palliative care. He is enthusiastic about his work and strives to offer the best care possible.
When not working, he is zealous about photography and creative writing, and enjoys playing tennis. He lives in Maryland with his wife, Dr. Sherry Narang, an ophthalmologist.
“Only with a passion for one’s work, comes the desire to excel in it… and only with compassion comes the ability to be selfless in it…”
